How to Visualize Customer Health Scores in Google Slides Using a Bullet Chart
March 31, 2026
Let's be honest. Presenting customer health scores to your leadership team is usually a visual mess.
You typically have two bad options. You can use a generic red-yellow-green "traffic light" system that completely lacks nuance. Or, you can paste a blurry screenshot from your customer success platform that you can't edit or style to match your slide deck.
Neither looks good in a high-stakes quarterly business review (QBR).
If you want to show exactly where an account stands, what the target score is, and the qualitative bands of "at-risk" versus "healthy," you need a bullet chart.
The problem? Google Slides doesn't have a native bullet chart option. But I'm going to show you exactly how to build one without ever leaving your presentation.
Why Bullet Charts are Perfect for Health Scores
Invented by data visualization expert Stephen Few, the bullet chart was designed specifically to replace dashboard gauges and meters. It packs a massive amount of context into a tiny footprint.
For a customer health score, a bullet chart shows you three things instantly:
- The quantitative measure: The central bar shows the actual health score (e.g., 72).
- The comparative measure: A vertical line marker shows your target goal (e.g., 85).
- The qualitative ranges: The background colors represent performance bands (e.g., 0-50 is Poor, 50-80 is Average, 80-100 is Good).
When you stack a few of these on a slide, your VP of Sales or Customer Success can immediately spot which accounts are thriving and which need immediate intervention.
Building a Bullet Chart in Google Slides
Since native Google Slides limits your chart options to basic pies and bars, we use ExtraChart. It's an advanced chart maker add-on that lives right in your Google Slides sidebar and gives you access to 20 specialized charts.
Here is how to set up your customer health score visualization.
Step 1: Open ExtraChart
Open your QBR presentation. Go to your top menu and click Extensions -> ExtraChart -> Create & Edit Charts.
The ExtraChart sidebar will pop up. Scroll down to the Business & Analytics section and click the Bullet Chart icon.
Step 2: Input Your Account Data
Clicking the icon opens the ExtraChart popup editor. On the right side, you'll see a spreadsheet-like Data tab.
You don't need to build complex formulas here. Just drop in your account data. You can even copy your current scores directly from Google Sheets or Excel and paste them right into the ExtraChart editor cells.
Set your ranges (like 0-40, 40-70, 70-100), plug in your target score, and add the current health score for your key accounts. As you type, the real-time preview on the left updates instantly.
Step 3: Customize the Look

Now switch over to the Settings tab. This is where you make it look like it actually belongs in your company's presentation.
You have total control over the layout. You can adjust the padding, change the font to match your brand (like Inter or Roboto), and tweak the axis scales. Use the Color Palette Manager to map your specific brand hex codes to the qualitative ranges—maybe a soft gray for the background bands and a bold brand color for the main performance bar.
Step 4: Insert and Update
Once it looks perfect, click "Create". ExtraChart inserts the visualization onto your slide as a crisp, high-resolution image.
Here is my favorite part about this workflow. Next month, when you need to present updated health scores, you don't have to rebuild the chart. Just select the image on your slide and open ExtraChart. The add-on remembers all your metadata. You simply update the data cells to the new scores, click save, and your slide updates perfectly.
Stop Settling for Bad Data Vis
Your customer success metrics are too important to hide behind messy screenshots or confusing gauges.
By using bullet charts, you give your audience the exact context they need to make fast, accurate decisions about account health. If you are ready to upgrade your QBR decks, install ExtraChart from the Google Workspace Marketplace and try building your first bullet chart today.
